Prefabricated Steel Building codes and loads
Premier can design its Prefabricated Steel Buildings for any required codes. We provide drawings stamped and certified by a registered engineer. Some Prefabricated Steel Building departments require non stamped, certified drawings, in which case Premier Steel will engineer your Prefabricated Steel Building using roof and wind loads from historical data compiled for your county. Please call your local building department for your Live load, Wind load, Exposure, Seismic and Design code requirements.
DEFINITIONS:
Go to Specifications SPECIFICATIONS Go to Highlights HIGHLIGHTS Go to Construction CONSTRUCTION Go to Codes BUILDING CODES Go to Color Chart COLOR CHART
Roof Load:
Any temporary load imposed on a Prefabricated Steel Building that is not wind load, snow load, seismic load or dead load. A few examples of a roof load are workers, equipment, and materials.
Wind Load:
The forces imposed by the wind blowing from any direction.
Exposure:
How exposed the Prefabricated Steel Building is to the elements.
Seismic Load:
The load or loads acting in any direction on a structural system due to the action of an earth quake.
Design Codes (examples):
Uniform Building Code (UBC) compiled by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO). It is prominent on the West Coast and in some areas of the Midwest and South.
Boca Basic Building Code (Boca): is primarily used east of the Mississippi and north of Tennessee.
Standard Building Code(SBC): covers most of the Gulf Coast states and other Southern areas.

There are many other codes, but these are the major ones. Over the past several years, the three national model building code bodies: SBCCI, BOCA and ICBO have been working together to produce a single code to be used throughout the United States. The result of their labor is the International Building Code that was published in 2000 as the IBC2003.
